Sie kamen erstmals als Band zusammen für den Film „Harlem Street Singer“, der Geschichte des Reverend Gary Davis. Das Ensemble feiert die Musik des Reverends mit neuen Interpretationen des klassischen Blues- und Gospel-Repertoires und spielt zusätzlich auch eigene Kompositionen. Die Empire Roots Band repräsentiert die US-amerikanischen Spitzenbotschafter der Rootsmusik. Mit ihnen sind sie rund um die Welt getourt, spielten und machten Aufnahmen mit den wichtigsten Musikern aus der Blues-, Folk- und Jazzszene. Dave Keyes tourte mit Odessa, Bo Diddley, Tracy Nelson, Ruth Brown, Gladys Knight, David Johansen, Darlene Love, Lou Rawls und dem Bluesman Popa Chubby. Dave war musikalischer Leiter von diversen Broadway-Shows und wurde kürzlich nominiert für den American Blues Award als bester Pianist. Bill Sims Jr., bei Warner Bros. unter Vertrag, ist ein versierter musikalischer Leiter von American-Blues-Theater-Produktionen wie „Lackawanna Blues“ und „Miss Ruby’s House“. Er machte zahlreiche Aufnahmen und spielte in dem von der Kritik gefeierten US-amerikanischem TV-Dokumentarfilm „An American Love Story“. Brian Glassman war auf Welttournee unterwegs als musikalischer Botschafter der USA für das U.S. State Department, er spielte mit Paquito d’Rivera, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lionel Hampton, Kenny Burrell, James Moody, Gary Burton und Randy Brecker. Außerdem tourte Brian mit jüdischen Musikern wie den Klezmaniacs und Andy Statman. Woody Mann, einer der Produzenten des Films „Harlem Street Singer“, erlernte das Gitarrenspiel direkt von dem Reverend und spielte und machte Aufnahmen mit den Bluesmeistern Son House, Bukka White und dem Gitarreninnovator John Fahey. Woody tourte weltweit als Solokünstler und unterrichtete zahllose Gitaristen durch seine vielen Lehrbücher und DVDs. Er doziert gegenwärtig als Visioning Artist an dem Berklee College of Music in Boston. All diese gefeierten Musiker kamen zusammen, um die großen Meister zu ehren, von denen sie lernten, und um durch ihre eigenen zeitgenössischen Wurzeln die Vergangenheit in die Gegenwart einfließen zu lassen. Coming together for the first time as the feature group for the fi lm Harlem Street Singer, the story of Rev. The Empire Roots Band represents America’s top ambassadors of roots music. Between them they have toured the world performing and recording with the most important artists from the blues, folk and jazz worlds. Dave Keyes has toured with Odessa, Bo Diddley, Tracy Nelson, Ruth Brown, Gladys Knight, David Johansen, Darlene Love, Lou Rawls and bluesman Popa Chubby. He has been the musical director for Broadway shows and recently been nominated for the American Blues Award for best pianist. A Warner Bros. recording artist, Bill Sims Jr. is an accomplished musical director for blues theatrical productions including “Lackawanna Blues” and “Miss Ruby‘s House”. He has recorded extensively and was featured in the critically acclaimed US National Public Television documentary, “An American Love Story”. Brian Glassman has toured the world as an American Musical Ambassador for The U.S. State Dept. and performed with Paquito d‘Rivera, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lionel Hampton, Kenny Burrell, James Moody, Gary Burton and Randy Brecker. In addition, Brian has toured with Klezmer / Yiddish and Jewish music stars such as The Klezmaniacs and Andy Statman. Woody Mann, one of the producers of Harlem Street Singer, learned guitar directly from the Reverend and performed & recorded with blues masters Son House, Bukka White and guitar innovator John Fahey. He has been touring the world as a soloist and has schooled countless guitarists through his many books and DVD’s. Woody is currently a visioning artist at Berklee College of Music, in Boston. Together, these celebrated artists come together to pay tribute to the masters they learned from and bring the past up to the present with their own contemporary roots!
